    Solid and Hazardous Waste Landfills:

Abso-Barrier Geomembranes are used in solid and hazardous waste landfills to contain waste and the leachate generated by the waste’s decomposition and by precipitation. HDPE Geomembranes are often utilized in association with other geosynthetics or natural materials to form complete engineered lining systems.

Abso-Barrier Geomembranes feature textured surfaces which increase the interfacial friction properties of geomembranes with adjacent geosynthetics or natural materials. The increased friction properties allow steeper side slopes and increased landfill capacity with improved safety factors against sliding.

    Landfill Caps and Closures:

Abso-Barrier HDPE and LLDPE Geomembranes are used in landfill caps and closures to minimize the amount of precipitation entering the landfill once it is filled to capacity. Abso-Barrier Geomembrane LLDPE features high elongation characteristics necessary for landfill caps that usually experience high differential settlement. Frictional Geomembranes are used where enhanced interfacial friction properties are desired.

    Portable Water Ponds and Lagoons:

Abso-Barrier  Geomembranes are ideal for the containment of potable water resources. These materials offer  high ultra-violet resistance required to withstand direct exposure to sunlight for long periods.

Industrial Ponds and Wastewater Treatment Lagoons:

The chemical and ultra-violet resistance of Abso-Barrier Geomembranes make them ideal liners for a wide range of surface impoundment applications were containment of industrial or municipal liquids or containment of wastewater is required:

    -  Waste liquid ponds and lagoons
    - Brine lagoons
    - Solar ponds
    - Reserve water lagoons
    - wastewater treatment

In all the above applications Abso-Barrier Geomembrane can be used where greater flexibility is required, However, it is recommended that this material be covered if very long life is required.

    Heap Leach Pad and Ponds:

Abso-Barrier Geomembranes are ideal for heap leach pad applications where the containment of metal solutions is required (eg. In copper or gold mining operations). This challenging application demands the chemical and ultra-violet resistance properties unique to Geomembranes. Where the superior elongation properties of LLDPE are required the covered portion of the heap leach pad can be lined with this material and the exposed solution trenches can be lined with HDPE Abso-barrier Geomembrane. These two materials are readily welded to each other using standard welding equipment.

    Other Mining Applications

Abso-Barrier Geomembranes are used  in many mining applications where the containment of liquid or solid wastes are required:

    - waste liquid ponds and lagoons
    - solutions ponds and trenches
    - overflow ponds
    - tailings impoundments

    Floating Covers:

Floating covers systems are used where the following is required:

    - to prevent the loss of water or treatment chemicals from storage facilities due to evaporation or ultra-violet breakdown.
    - to prevent the contamination of such facilities due to air bone pollutants.
-for the control of odors that may be released from the containment.
    - for anaerobic digesters where the methane gas generated can be utilized for power generation

Abso-Barrier Geomembranes combine stress crack, chemical and ultra-violet resistance with the flexibility and mechanical strength needed for floating covers to withstand exposure to weather extremes.

    Secondary Containment Applications:

Abso-Barrier Geomembranes are suitable for secondary or temporary containment of leaks from a facility’s primary containment system. As an example, tank farms frequently use a geomembrane underlayment to contain any leaks from storage tanks. Subject to determination of chemical compatibility, this application of geomembrane is appropriate for the following applications.

    - oil storage tanks
    - gasoline storage tanks
    - petrochemical facilities
    - chemical processing facilities

Contaminated Soils Treatment Pads & Encapsulation:

Abso-Barrier Geomembranes offer high chemical resistance required for encapsulation or biological treatment of contaminated soils. The geomembrane provides a chemically resistant barrier to contaminated liquids during treatment. Encapsulations of contaminated soils prevents the migration of pollution into the environment and eliminates the generation of additional leachate due to precipitation.

Waterproofing of Tunnels and Dams :

Waterproofing tunnels and dams requires site specific engineering and construction techniques that often rely on complex lining and drainage systems. Geomembrane liners will most often be used in combination with other construction materials for these purposes. The flexibility of Abso-Barrier Geomembrane LLDPE is particularly suitable to tunnel lining where the liner is required to follow the uneven surface created by to gunite layer.
